In November 2014, Galerie de la Ville, Dollard Centre for the Arts, invited me to participate in a group exhibition entitled “Through the Artist’s Eye”; guest curator was Bev Wight. The purpose of the exhibition was to make visible the artist’s image creating process. I decided to tape my process as I created the triptych oil painting you see here & produced this series of videos that were posted online throughout the following year.
Above is Video #1; it contains an introduction to the project & includes details about the image, the palette & a series of video clips demonstrating how I sketched my images onto the canvas.
Consecutive videos focused on the underpainting, shadows, & palette development, painting of panels 1, 2 & 3, hi-light featured painting details, final painting overview, art material maintenance, delivery of the artwork, & the vernissage opening reception. You can see the other 9 videos below on this page.
I had lots of fun putting this together, & with a crazy learning curve, too! … seriously new territory for me.
I hope this series of videos provides some insight into the artistic working process & creation of oil paintings. And that art lovers & artists among you, are able to take away a little something that might prove useful in your own artistic practice or bring the kind of freshness into your lives, that only art can.
Many thanks to Claudine Ascher, curator at Galerie de la Ville, Dollard Centre for the Arts, guest curator, Bev Wight & all the participating artists who made our exhibition a success. To our dear friends, family & clients, your generosity & support is incalculable in all it’s forms; we love you.
